THE MOZARTCIRCLE ALMANAC: YEAR 1776 ver. 20260228 HOME [A] - Important Composers in Carpani's 1812 List • Haydn J [No. 1] • Mozart [No. 25] [Ia] - Composers: Births [Ib] - Composers: Deaths The composers with [#number#] are those considered by Carpani for his exclusive list of year 1812, you can find published by MozartCircle here: http://mozartcircle.porticodoro.com/mzc/scholarworks/?Id=April2020 WARNING: ABOUT THE DATING OF COMPOSITIONS The dating of many works from this period is mostly derived from informed speculation (also for Mozart's works, but especially for Haydn's works). The printed publishing of a work, in many cases, happened ca. 5 or even 10 years after its real composition and/or its premiere. Many dates of orchestral or chamber music are determined only by the advertising system of that period. The dating you find in this Almanac tries to represent the most accurate conclusions established by scholars. |

HAYDN (JOSEPH)
[A] [see Carpani's 1812 Gran Gallery No. 1] • Sacred Music 1776 • Hob.XXIIIa:2 Motet: Animae Deo gratae or Agite Properate [C-M] (1776 or before) • Hob.XXIIIb:5 Salve Regina [G-M] (ca. 1776) • Operas 1776 • Hob.XXIXa:3 Didone Abbandonata (Dido) (Marionette Opera, 1776; Bader) LOST • Cantatas 1776 (Secular) • Hob.XXVIb:1 Deutschlands Klage auf den Tod des grossen Friedrichs Borussens König [Eb-M] (1776) [probably LOST] • Incidental Music 1776 • Hob.30:2 Musik zum Schauspiel Die Feuersbrunst (1774 or 1776? or 1778?) LOST(?) More than incidental musik, it should be a Marionette Singspiel with dialogues. For this work it exists a score discovered in 1935, the authenticity of which is still highly debated. Moreover it's not sure if the music was really intended for this Die Feuersbrunst, in particular, or for another (similar?) libretto (we don't have). Even the composer of the score is not sure: Haydn or a revision by Haydn of someone else's music? We know that Pleyel, the pupil of Haydn, wrote some music for this work and/or even completed the instrumentation. Even the dating is uncertain: 1774 or 1776 or 1778, based on speculation. Probably the Incidental music (mostly Interludes?) for: - Shakespeare’s Hamlet Hob:XXX:B (1774-1776) - Goethe’s Götz von Berlichingen Hob:XXX:C (ca. 1776) are lost and the attribution seems uncertain. In any case, the info is interesting, since directly puts Haydn in the Literature Context of the Sturm und Drang, not only in the Music Context of such Genius/Sturm und Drang movement. It’s also possible that such works were written by other composers and Haydn wrote the orchestral revision: it seems that Haydn often directly revised all the music to be performed at Esterhazy Court. • Overtures 1776 • Hob.Ia:4 Overture [D-M] (1776-85?) • Symphonies 1776 Haydn's Symphonies from 1774 are among the most important ones, since they represent a fundamental point of style definition both in music writing and richer instrumentation. • Hob.1:61 Symphony [D-M] (1776) • Hob.1:66 Symphony [Bb-M] (1774/5-76) • Hob.1:67 Symphony [F-M] (1774/5/6-79) • Hob.1:69 Symphony Laudon[C-M] (1775-76) • Keyboard Music 1776 • Hob.16:27 Keyboard Sonata No.42 or IMSLP No.27 [G-M] (ca 1774-76) • Hob.16:28 Keyboard Sonata No.43 or IMSLP No.28 [Eb-M] (ca 1774-76) • Hob.16:29 Keyboard Sonata No.44 or IMSLP No.29 [F-M] (ca 1774-76) • Hob.16:30 Keyboard Sonata No.45 or IMSLP No.30 [A-M] (ca 1774-76) • Hob.16:31 Keyboard Sonata No.46 or IMSLP No.31 [E-M] (ca 1774-76) • Hob.16:32 Keyboard Sonata No.42 or IMSLP No.32 [B-m] (ca. 1774-76) • Chamber Music 1776 • Hob.V:7 2 Violins & Cello [A-M] (1776) • Hob. XIV:1 2 Horns, Violin, Cello, Keyboard [Eb-M] (1776 or before) • Dances 1776 • Hob.IX:6 12 Minuets (ca. 1776) ________________ |
